Dave Sills: Home
"Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand." That was the line spoken by Paul Newman in the film Cool Hand Luke. I liked that movie and line so much, I stole part of it for an album title. Today (9/27) I learned that Paul Newman passed away. Not content with being one of the finest actors in the world, he was a progressive activist who wasn't afraid to stand up for what he believed in, whether it was fighting for civil rights or against the Vietnam war. He always said one of his proudest achievements was ending up Nixon's "enemies list." In later years he created a successful line of food products, and all the profits went towards charities he supported ($175 MILLION as of last year). He remains one of my heroes, though the world without him is a lot less cool.
