Dave Sills: Music

Down On The Waterfront

()
Dave Sills: vocals, acoustic guitar

Cold glow of street lights shine down
On this broken town
Wind blows yesterday’s papers
Across the broken ground
Out past the strip shows and transient hotels
And all the liquor stores
A congregation of ragged souls
Searching for something more

A Salvation Army band plays out of tune
For the lost and lonely to dance with the moon
Somewhere down on the waterfront
Everyone’s looking for clues
Somewhere down on the waterfront
They’re waiting until the light shines true

In the distance ships drift by
While wind whistles through air
Blows past just like time
Carrying silent prayer
Souls stir in the breeze
As the waves lap at the shore
Trying to mend second-hand hearts
Bought from the rag and bone store

Broken and shattered, half-beating hearts
Can be put back together but you still see scars
Somewhere down on the waterfront
Everyone’s looking for clues
Somewhere down on the waterfront
They’re waiting until the light shines true

The keys that you hold don’t unlock any doors
You scream and shout and you cry - what for?
Take those troubles out of your head
Throw ‘em like stones down by the water’s edge

A Salvation Army band plays out of tune
For the lost and lonely to dance with the moon
Somewhere down on the waterfront
Everyone’s looking for clues
Somewhere down on the waterfront
They’re waiting until the light shines true
