The Waking Hours

()
Dave Sills: vocals, acoustic guitar

Crescent moon shines through the trees
Weaving shadows and light that fall down at my feet
Night sings a sweet lullaby
As stars flicker and fade in the distant sky

And there’s a matter that I feel the need to address
One which greeting card sentiments fail to express
The world disappears with the touch of your hand
For those moments dear, I am in your command

You picked my confidence up out of the dust
Showed me faith taught me hope, taught me trust
Believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself

I may not be a bird
But I will fly so high and sing you a song so sweet
Even now in the waking hours
You’re still walking in my sleep

Every night I whisper a prayer
That when I wake in the morning you will still be there
They say the greatest things always appear in disguise
So if you truly are an angel I wouldn’t be that surprised

If this is a dream please don’t wake me up
Thought the well was dry, somehow you filled my cup
You get around my rough edges and character flaws

I may not be a bird
But I will fly so high and sing you a song so sweet
Even now in the waking hours
You’re still walking in my sleep

I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t scared
But we’ll make it through these times I swear
You and I are gonna get through this together

I may not be a bird
But I will fly so high and sing you a song so sweet
Even now in the waking hours
You’re still walking in my sleep
