Dave Sills: News
Oops - June 13, 2007
I keep forgetting to post news here as well as on the front page, so it may look like I haven't had any! Well, that's not the case. Most news will continue to be put on the home page. I will try to remember to put it here as well. If I have time, I'll dig thru the archives and re-post some of the old news. (EDIT: I've done some of that now)
Hunt Club Residency - April 13, 2007
There are all manner of bad puns we could use to remind you about Dave's upcoming shows at The Hunt Club in Chicago. Puns such as "hunting season is open" or "TuesDaves with Sills," but we decided to forgo that silliness and just give you the facts: Dave will perform on Tuesdays (April 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29) from 8 to 10PM. No cover.
A very very very fine House (Cafe) - April 11, 2007
Good times were had by all out at The House Cafe in DeKalb. Look for Dave and the band to be out amongst the corn and trains again soon. There's a few new pics from the show on the photo page.
As Shure as Shure can be - October 31, 2006
After receiving submissions from across the globe,
Shure Microphones picked Dave to be one of their 10 Featured Artists for 2006. Click on the link to check it out in their newsletter, Shure Notes (it's in alphabetical order, so Dave's at the end).
Look What The Fans Drug In - October 10, 2006
You can download Dave & Chris' cover of Michael Penn's "Long Way Down (Look What The Cat Drug In)," along with 39 other Penn covers at
On Bunker Hill. All the songs are available in 3 different formats for your convienience. Don't forget to read the liner notes!
Heat wave - August 1, 2006
The band and I had a great time playing the World's Largest Block Party, despite the sweltering heat. If our set had been longer, Scott might have melted - the poor guy always seems to get stuck sitting in the direct sunlight.
Meanwhile I'm back in the nice cool basement, working on some new songs and trying to book us some more gigs. Remember to keep hydrated!
Performing Songwriter Top 12 - June 2, 2006
Performing Songwriter Magazine chose WAITING ROOM as one of their Top 12 DIY albums in their July/August 2006 issue. You can read all about it on the Reviews page.
A nod's as good as a wink - April 29, 2006
Tune in to WXRT 93.1 FM Chicago on June 14th to hear a major concert announcement which involves me and the band. I'm not supposed to be spilling the beans just yet, but I can tell you that we plan to rock your 'block' off in July. Know what I mean? Say no more. Nudge nudge.
Site update - January 14, 2006
I've learned a few new HTML tricks, so you may notice some slight changes and additions to the site.
All the songs now have the lyrics and credits (ie., the who played what info) posted. When you're on the Music page, just click on the title of the song and you'll see it.
A perusal of the newly posted info reveals that the "special guest" I refered to on July 2nd, is none other than... drumroll please... Peter Himmelman!!! Peter plays Hammond organ and Wurlitzer electric piano on "Standing In The Way."
I hope to see many of you in a couple of weeks at the Goose Island show. Take care.
Wait no longer - December 19, 2005
Waiting Room is out now. Well, don't just sit there reading this... go buy it!
Please release me - November 30, 2005
WAITING ROOM will be released on December 13th. Finally!!!
Just a little bit longer - November 14, 2005
Here it is mid-November and the album is mixed, mastered, and ready to go. Just a few little details on the packaging to finish up and then ready.
Mixed! - October 17, 2005
We're done mixing the album. Just a little mastering and then it's off to be pressed.
Clips are now up for every song.
Cubby Bear show - September 29, 2005
Please email me to get your tickets in advance for the October 21st show at Cubby Bear. You'll save yourself a couple bucks and it looks better for us. We really need your support for this show. So line up a sitter for the kids, or organize a carpool of fellow music-lovers - do whatever you have to do (within boundaries of the law) to get there.
Mixing it up - September 12, 2005
Recording on the album will be complete on Wednesday. All that's left to do is mix it and have it pressed up. If we stay on track, it should be out in October. I'm really pleased with the record, everyone involved has really done a great service to the songs.
Gimme the keys - August 14, 2005
Scott has been out of town for much of the summer, so in the interest of finishing the record, I have decided to tackle some keyboard parts on my own. I've also invited teacher/mentor/friend Larry Rossi to have a crack at a couple of tunes as well. Larry played trumpet on Flawed Magic on the last record, and played some keys on the True Fiction album. Fear not though, Scott will still be doing his thing on a handful of tunes.
Time flies, even without the fun - July 2, 2005
Is it July already? Scott is working furiously on his keyboard parts... and on installing slate in his bathroom... and about a hundred other projects both musical and not. That's the peril of getting the best guys to play - they also tend to be the busiest. I'm certainly not just sitting around waiting for him though. I'm working with Susan and Sam on the packaging and artwork, trying to book some gigs, and ironing out a "special guest" appearance for the record. Who is it? Well, I won't tell you until I have it on tape (well, technically on a hard drive, but that just doesn't sound right), so stop asking.
Sorry to keep you waiting - June 8, 2005
I'm sure that everyone has stopped believing me when I say that the album is almost done and will be out soon, because I've said it several times now and as you well know, the album is not yet out. I've honestly meant it every time I've said it but sometimes things don't go as planned. As the saying goes, "Man makes plans and G-d laughs."
But I'd rather take longer and have it be right than rush to finish and end up disappointed with the end result. Some people have said that the rough mixes sound "good enough" to their ears, but I'm after more than "good enough."
I think that if you stop trying to improve upon the last thing you did then you might as well just stop altogether. I felt Sometimes Nothing was a step forward from True Fiction. Waiting Room has to be a step forward from Sometimes Nothing, at least to my ears.
So hang in there and thanks for your patience.
Rolling along - April 5, 2005
This site is still evolving and changing by the day. On the Music page, you can listen to two songs from the new album. I also just uploaded an acoustic EP (songs from my debut album TRUE FICTION) that you can download for free.
New site - March 31, 2005
Hey everyone, just starting to get the new site up and running.
